Poetry Sunday - I Have Lyme

I Have Lyme

I have Lyme,

But girl you look fine,

My outer shell,

Makes it hard to tell,

The war that goes on inside,

You don’t want to be on this rollercoaster ride,

One tick,

Sets off the time bomb with a click,

Symptoms flare,

You scare,

Your loved ones and family can’t understand,

They only try to offer a hand,

Doctor sit with a puzzled look,

Flicking through their text book,

Looking for answers that are simply not there,

You break down and cry in despair,

You begin to share your story & raise awareness wherever you can,

Going to the doctors - I am not a fan,

The endless tests & pills,

All adds up on the medical bills,

You talk on the telly,

Whilst battling an awkward belly,

People fail to see the real pain,

The life you lead that has become a strain,

One bite,

Changes our lives over night,

You can’t get out of bed,

Yet people say it is all in your head,

A hand to hold,

A story that is waiting to be told,

I will fight for others in hope that I can save,

So more people to this disease don’t become a slave,

It isn’t always easy to talk,

Into a live studio you walk,

I have Lyme,

But girl you look fine,

I’ve built myself up and chosen life now,

Some days I don’t know how,

Days and nights are so hard,

But yourself you can’t discard,

Take a bite out of lime,

You never did commit a crime,

That you are being punished for,

From life you had hoped for more,

You are a warrior & you were put on this path by fate,

Your fighter spirit your strongest trait,

Lyme ticks me off everyday,

But I add sparkle in every way,

To make the most of every day,

Spreading kindness and motivation in every way,

Awareness work is all year round,

You can hear our voices- they can be a loud sound,

Please listen & practise the prevention methods everyday,

They can protect and save your lives everyday,

Look for a bullseye,

Or flu like symptoms, fever and migraines that can cause you to cry,

Don’t become a victim of this hell,

On life you want to ring the bell,

Pain through your veins,

But still trying to dance when it rains,

I am me,

Just be the best person you can be,

Lyme is a part of me,

I fight it everyday to regain me,

Wear lime and speak to your friends,

Even when the month of May ends,

The fight still goes on,

Lyme won’t easily be gone,

Thank you for your support and love,

You are all my angels sent from above,

I am here,

I keep my loved ones near,

To fight with me,

Encouraging me to be the best person I can be.
