Ok, ok - so before you all think I am going to just be pushing 'clean' eating please just have a read.
Oil, now I struggle with oil as more and more research is revealing how processed and how many added toxins are in it maybe that is why?
I have read an article on oil today, saying why was the Mediterranean diet so popular and had such great results when they pour oil in buckets on everything?
And yes the Med diet has had great results but people don't see that they do have a high veg diet too.
This article showed how oil consumed with meat stuck to the meat fats like glue and the body was unable to identify the difference and break them down accordingly, it just saw it as being a toxin it could not digest properly. Causing insulin and cholesterol levels to increase and the fats to stick to your artery walls. The more and more that oils were consumed in this way the less the body was able to recognise the difference between glucose and insulin. Causing the term 'sludge blood' or Lipemia, where less oxygen was able to be absorbed into the blood to take to the heart. Symptoms of this are chest pains and ultimately heart attacks.
When oils were consumed with veggies and other starches ( pasta, rice etc) the insulin levels did rise but because they use different enzymes to be digested with the body recognises the difference between the food, separating them and digesting them far better. All the nutrients are taken from all the foods, of course the toxins are still stored in the body as the body can't break them down. So if you do have a diet full of oil but are vegan or veggie you are still at risk of suffering a heart attack but the risk is a lot lower as you would have to consume a lot more.
So people eating your typical Western diet and especially the America diet where it's all meat and fried food and they begin eating the Mediterranean diet or a more plant-based approach do see health improvements. I don't believe there is a certain diet that is best. All diets have their flaws and their positives! We are all different and our bodies require different things/ process foods differently. It is finding what is best for you! What works for you! However I don't agree with a diet full of fried, junk foods and processed products. I love a bit of junk food. But it isn't good for our bodies. And to eat it all the time is putting so many extra stresses on our body.
I don't push clean eating and have never state I am a professional or anything silly like that. However, for me eating 'cleaner foods' has helped me with my allergies and I am SO thankful and grateful for that! I spend hours and hours doing endless research to ensure I have gotten all the information I can possibly get to help myself. However people who are critical and slate eating more clean need to see that eating junk - like McDonalds for instance does yes make life easier, taste good, 'makes you happy' ( or does it really) but their fries contain 19 ingredients!!! Many of those E numbers and additives the body can't break down! And the strawberry smoothies have 23 ingredients!
Potatoes are a fresh veg/starch, strawberries are fresh! So why so much rubbish added?
I can make flipping tasty chips with 3 ingredients- potatoes, coconut oil & salt. And a smoothie - come on, load it with some fresh and frozen fruits, milk/milk alternative, sugar and seeds. Boom! Done and tasty!!
What is wrong with eating more fresh? Like I said I am not saying just eat cucumber, we all enjoy chocolates, fries, crisps etc! But why would you promote such a high processed diet. I feel people slate eating 'clean' because they think its boring and it will make you unhappy, you will be starving all day. When they need to do THEIR RESEARCH properly and then they will see how many amazing products are out there, what you can create with these foods, alternatives and then properly tell us how they feel about eating fresher.
I know the BBC are doing a documentary next week on clean eating and after their badly put together'plant-based' one only a few months ago now I can see the documentary being a negative one towards cleaner eating. Yesterday they were trying to be critical about Deliciously Ella and her eating/ diet.
How many people consuming a processed diet can say they feel 'well'. So many of them suffer from diabetes, heart disease and other dangerous illness and diseases.
It's not about never eating badly, or eating 'clean' it is about eating for maximum health.
And looking at all the evidence above it proves how processed foods effect our bodies and the dangers we are putting ourselves in! There are simple little changes that help us and our bodies in so many ways.
If beginning to suffer from food allergies has taught me anything it is that we can adapt and there are always alternatives! You think you will miss out and you can't live without a certain type of food or you believe it's your treat that can never be replaced! But through research and lots of testing you will find something that is similar or that you like more.
It is hard to know what is best to take on/follow as everywhere you turn there is a new diet or a better way of eating for you health. We all get wrapped up and panicky about what we are buying, eating, cooking etc - is Millie Mackintosh, Victoria Beckham eating this way.
When my body is totally different to 'Sarah's' say down the road. She may not have food allergies, and she may have a stronger digestive symptom to me. I find nuts a fab snack and love them, she may find that nuts make her skin break out and avoids them.
EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.
Just because a certain diet says avoid dairy, carbs etc ( I am being silly now - don't cut all this out of your diet but some diets are insane ) but if you feel great off carbs - don't remove them from you diet because your idol Victoria Beckham did or the media told you that carbs will kill you if you eat them past six o'clock.
I think that is why I love the 'plant-based' lifestyle so much. It isn't a strict diet, you add and take from it what you want. You tailor it around your lifestyle, body, health and work with what works best for you! It makes you learn more about your body.
Deliciously Ella - follows a plant-based diet but doesn't have allergies so can have beans, wheat based flours etc, where as I do have allergies so I simply adapt and take those out, finding alternatives - rice flour, soya beans. Niomi Smart follows a plant-based diet with no allergies! Ella loves oats in the morning, and Niomi loves smoothies and that works for her. We are all SO different. Don't think you HAVE to eat a certain way and believe picture that the media paints
for 'clean' eating.
So my message today is that please be more aware in regards to processed foods and especially oils that are often sold as a health food but are pretty toxic to our bodies. If you suffer from heart disease and diabetes just be more aware. Of course I know how awful a heart attack is and that is why the message is so strong for me. But also I hope you all keep an open mind when the BBC documentary is aired and this is YOUR life, live for YOU. That is one of my own goals. What 'Joe' wants for dinner may not be satisfying for you - so eat what you want, that makes YOU feel good.
DIET - has the word 'DIE' in it - so don't follow one! Adapt your lifestyle and live following your own rules.
THANK YOU FOR READING.
Have a blessed and lovely weekend.
LOVE AND PEACE.
Feeling sluggish and rubbish when you have woken up? Get boosting up on bananas the more the better - they will help settle your stomach, boosting digestion, they are a mood enhancer, they will give you the energy you need and keep you full. Buy my book for banana receipe ideas.
Wake up every morning and ATLEAST have one glass of lemon water before doing anything else! Ideally try to drink a litre of water. The lemon wakes up your digestive system ready for the day and has great cleansing properties.
Check your dairy and meat intake - dairy can sit in your system for up to seven days unable to digest properly. Meaning other foods also get neglected and nurtients aren't absorbed properly and you feel extremely bloated. Go and smell your food bin, your stomach will be in that state. Rotting foods in your belly - hmm nice.
DO NOT FEAR CARBS - THEY ARE NOT THE ENEMY! CARB UP!!
Bananas, Rice, Potatoes, Leafy Greens, Corn, Beans, Lentils etc PACK THEM IN GO MAD.
NEVER COUNT CALORIES - NEVER RESTRICT!! These restriction 'starvation' diets who tell you to only eat 500 calories a day then have a treat day - where you binge out and eat WAY too much, is simply messing up your metabolism and on your binge days yours body stores all the fat meaning you gain weight because it knows it is going to go back into starvation mode and needs to hold onto every little thing it can. HELLO WEIGHT GAIN.
Life is too short not to live it to the full, making yourself happy.
