As you will all are just seen on my Feb Top Picks I am loving Edamame pasta - you can buy t as a fettucine or a spaghetti from Holland and Barrett.
We all know the media is often very critical about 'speciality' diets. Often slating them and making unbalanced comments. However the Daily Mail have written an article on 'gluten-free' pastas. This article was from 19th Feb, so it is also a recent write up.
Although many pastas they tested and rated didn't come score highly ( 2-6/10) which in some respects I can see, as I am not the biggest fan of more of the alternative pastas on the market at the moment.
These pastas feel down on the starchy, heaviness of the them! Which is true - they are very heavy due to the rice flour especially. I was also very impressed that they raised that most of these 'gluten' free pastas were NOT wheat free containing QUINOA ( which if you read my blogs you will remember my nightmare I had in regards to this in Birmingham.)
Quinoa is a grain and therefore wheat, like the article states - yes it has a good level of protein within it but not a significant amount and that if you can eat grains then a whole-wheat pasta would be a lot more beneficial nutrition wise.
The rice pasta's also lack fibre - only containing an average of 2g as well as only 5g approx of protein.
Now your Edamame pasta contains 15g of fibre and 34g of protein per serving!
Beating the others HANDS DOWN on nutrition.
With nutritional values aside it also tastes really yummy and has so much more flavour than the normal rice types.
The level of soy in the pasta is what is helping with the protein levels and soy is packed with antioxidant plant compounds, helping keeping your energy levels a sustained level for longer.
All these amazing positives equalled a score of 10/10 ! Leaving the others in the shadows with Profusion Organic Chickpea Fusilli ( which if you struggle with wheat isn't an option for you ) at 6/10!
So if you are looking for a new pasta to liven up your dishes and want a product that is nutritionally dense then PLEASE, PLEASE try and invest in Edamame pasta and yes it may be a little more expensive but you will get more from the food, more flavour and not feel sluggish after!
To me that is worth the little bit extra.
As I explained in my video I was so pleased I managed to find this product! As I didn't eat a lot of pasta due to how it left me feeling/ the taste never won me over. Where as this I am really enjoying and urge you all to try it and give it a go.
Let me know if you do test it out what you think?
Have you had any bad experiences with the normal 'gluten-free' pastas ( feeling sluggish, not realising they contain wheat, feel you have energy crashes?)
Reach out and let me know your thoughts.
Finding FOYLE the bookstore in Birmingham New Street Station also made me very excited. As you can all imagine Birmingham New Street Station is SUPER busy! So having this bookstore located here and it being one of the online bookstores that sold out of UNITED TASTES OF AMERICA was amazing to see!
And hearing park owners from the show tell me how they are enjoying my book, passing it onto family members to help them with their travels just fills me with SO much joy.
